Start climbing with a group session or find your own feet with help available as and when you need it. We have everything you need to get you off the ground and accelerate your skills.

Coached sessions

Led by our qualified instructors, coached sessions take place in small groups with an emphasis on getting you climbing faster better. From your first steps to the high grades we're here to support you.

All new climbers are required to complete a Hangar induction

We run them on the hour every hour throughout the day.

Inductions are included in the cost of entry, but if you want to get the most out of climbing they're priceless!

Your induction will take about 20 minutes and once you’re done you’re free to climb for as long as you want.

Get Going, Beginners coaching - Monday 7:30pm, Wednesday 7:30pm

Three sessions of an hour running on consecutive weeks. Each session focuses on a fundamental core skill: footwork, body position and strategy.

These sessions are ideal for those who have previously tried climbing and want to accelerate their abilities. We reckon you'll be climbing V2-V3 by the time you're done.

Participants will also receive suggestions regarding effective regular training practices, warmups and warm downs and training away from the wall.

£25. For full three week course.

Going Strong, Intermediate coaching - Tuesdays, 8pm

Three sessions of an hour running on consecutive weeks.

The intermediate sessions are designed to push those climbing V3 or higher to tackle a couple of grades above their current level by focusing on technique. At the first session you'll chat about your goals and challenges so we can tailor the classes and ensure everyone in the group gets the most out of their experience.

Participants will also receive suggestions regarding effective regular training practices, warmups and warm downs and training away from the wall.

£25. For full three week course.

Strength & Conditioning for Climbers - Thursday, 7pm

Three one hour sessions on consecutive weeks.

Strength and Conditioning is essential to not only improve your speed, power and strength, but also to help prevent injury in any activity you do.

Not sure how to use our training area effectively? Unsure how to get stronger for climbing? Need to work on your flexibility? Then come along to our free S & C classes on Thursday evenings. Over three 1 hour sessions coach Jamie will guide you through some simple steps to help you become faster, higher and stronger - just like the Olympians!

These are initially being offered for no extra charge above your standard wall entry price, to enable Coach Jamie to complete his Masters Degree at LJMU.

Train to climb

We like to mix it up a bit at the Hangar, and we strongly believe in training away from the wall to get better on the wall. Join one of our alternative training classes to build the strength, stability, agility, and concentration to become an excellent climber.

Our yoga sessions deliver:

  • An array of poses suitable for absolute beginners as well as more established yoga practitioners
  • Effective stretches to ease aching muscles after a good hard climb
  • Mental relaxation
  • Breath, stability and strength practices that can be applied on the wall
  • Overall a greater awareness of your body and how it responds to help you move more fluidly and flexibly during your climbs

Yoga for climbers - Tuesday and Thursday evenings

Led by Sion Jones at 7pm every Tuesday and Thursday.

£6.50 guests, £5 for members

Roaming coaches

Tap into our experience when you hit a snag in the crag. Our roaming coaches are available throughout the evening for advice and tips to get you over that pesky plateau. Normal entry prices apply. No booking required.

How fit / strong do I need to be?

You don’t need to be fit or super strong to start climbing. You’ll find problems (what we call individual climbs) you can do on your first visit, and the more you practice the stronger you’ll become! Just make sure you warm up before you start to minimise the risk of injury, and you can get cracking right away (our staff can help if you need guidance – just ask).

I don't like heights - how high is the wall?

Bouldering isn’t about climbing high. The wall is only 4.2m at its highest point. And remember, while your hands might be at the top, your feet are unlikely to ever be more than 3m off the ground. The Climbing Hangar has crash mats throughout and we can teach you to land safely to minimise the risk of injury. As you gain in confidence you will stop noticing the heights.

How safe is bouldering?

Bouldering is a risky sport. But as long as you are aware of the particular type of risks associated with bouldering and how to avoid unnecessary dangers, it’s actually no more dangerous than normal kids’ play activities or adult sports. The induction video will tell you what to be aware of and how to stay safe, and our waiver document outlines your responsibilities as a Climbing Hangar customer. We’re fully insured and our team is qualified in coaching (and first aid should you need it).

What's your cancellation policy for classes?

For all pay as you go clubs and classes, we're happy to refund the cost of the session providing you cancel at least 24 hours in advance. No refund is available if you cancel less than 24 hours in advance.
