Session duration: 45 minutes
The aim for this session is to get you SAFELY climbing in the most dynamic style possible.
You might not be Magnus Midtbo by the end, but you should feel more confident on dynamic climbs.
This is the perfect session to do with friends as you can be creative and have a laugh with them.
Part 1: Dynamic Warm Up
- On your warm up climbs, try to move in the most flowy way possible. Aim to get from the top to the bottom without pausing.
- Pick a few easy boulders. Move both hands at the same time and try to clap between every move. Choosing slabs makes this easier, but you could make it more challenging by picking overhangs or clapping behind your back.
Part 2: Dyno practice
- If you're climbing at a Hangar, check out the dyno practice station (part of the Magic Moves circuit). Here you can start small and work your way up to trying the biggest dyno possible. Look out for a QR code to scan which will give you some tips.
- Once you feel confident, make up some of your own dynos on blocs around the centre. These could be straight up, sideways or run and jumps. Just be careful not to land on anyone!
Louise Flockhart is a rising star of sport climbing.
Part 3: Putting it all together
- Find a dynamic climb within your project grade range. At TCH, my favourites are normally pink. Spend at least 10 minutes working this boulder and trying to climb it in a dynamic style. Often the most important thing on dynamic climbs is to have confidence and give it some welly.
But again, let's emphasize safety and not take unnecessary risks. Start small, work your way up and have fun with it.
