About The Hangar
Ahead of the launch of our epic new 24,000+ ft Southampton site, we’re looking for a passionate and experienced Café Team Leader to join our brand-new climbing facility. The Climbing Hangar in a nutshell is thrilling climbing, great music, and an amazing café to kick back to with friends.
With heart-pounding climbs at every grade, we offer indoor climbing for everybody. It doesn't matter who you are, or how hard you climb, you'll get the same warm welcome at The Hangar.
While we believe indoor climbing is as much about "play" as it is about "progress", we'll have plenty of toys here for hardcore climbers, including Campus boards; Hangboards; a 50° Kilter Board; 40° Tension Board. There is something for everyone.
The Role
Café offering high-quality coffee, toasties and sandwiches, cakes and soups. Focus on great local produce with minimal prep in-house. No dough or bread experience is needed for this role. The climbing hangar is a welcoming and vibrant café with a focus on community. We serve high-quality coffee, fresh sandwiches, toasties, and simple café fare to climbers and visitors. We’re passionate about great food, excellent service, and creating a friendly atmosphere.
We are looking for a Cafe Team Leader to take charge of our busy café. As our Cafe Team Leader, you’ll be at the heart of our cafe operations – you’ll ensure that our food is consistently delicious, well-prepared, and efficiently served. You’ll also be responsible for ordering supplies, maintaining food safety standards, and leading a small team to deliver excellent service.

What you’ll be doing:
Manage Stock & Ordering: Order stock, keep inventory in check and ensure minimal waste.
Lead the Team: Lead and support the café team, ensuring smooth service and a positive work environment.
Food Preparation & Quality Control: Oversee the preparation of sandwiches, toasties, and other café items, ensuring high standards of taste, presentation, and consistency.
Food Health & Safety: Maintain excellent food hygiene practices, keeping the kitchen clean, safe, and compliant with regulations to help guarantee the safety of your entire team and customers.
Oversee Café Operations: Ensure every dish meets our quality standard and the kitchen stays clean and organised.
Customer Service: Work closely with the front-of-house team to ensure customers receive great food and service, while also handling customer queries.
Efficiency & Organisation: Ensure service runs smoothly, even during busy periods.

Ideal Candidate
- Experience working in a café, deli, or similar kitchen environment.
- A passion for simple, high-quality food and great coffee.
- Confidence to be able to support the training of all staff.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Experience with stock ordering and managing waste.
- Leadership skills and the ability to motivate a small team.
- Knowledge of food hygiene and safety standards (Level 2 Food Safety preferred, but training can be provided).
- A friendly, positive attitude and ability to work well under pressure.
