Purpose:

This is my pre-work session that helps me find a nice sense of flow.  It also the session I draft in when I’m too tired to think and just need to get moving and feel the glow afterwards.

Goal:

  • Climb 2 or 3 complete circuits with only one try allowed per bloc
  • Take the least amount of rest needed to be able to do the next problem, and keep moving

Method:

  • Start on an easy circuit and end up on a circuit one down from your hard circuit. Aim to reduce your rest times to a quick chalk up only.
  • Work logically from side of the centre to the other so you don’t have to keep track.

Focus on:

  • Make your warm up count – precise, silent feet with efficient movements with minimal power – “be like water.”  Start climbing as you mean to go on – smooth!
  • Precision especially as you get tired and sweaty.  My mantra is “right first time”, it’s like a meditation as the tempo builds and I can really lose myself in the climbing with no rests giving a break from the focus/effort.

Progression:

  • Start with 10 climbs per circuit and build up to more volume
  • Build in blocs you don’t like for skill progression, exclude them to keep the effort consistent
  • If climbing with a friend/s, make a comp and count the blocs you drop. The lowest score at the end wins the round. It’s good bantz with a touch of pressure.
